Farmington Woods’ Clubs
Farmington Woods is fortunate to offer many diverse opportunities for students to expand upon their areas of interest under the supervision of faculty advisors in an extra-curricular setting.
Math Magicians
The Farmington Woods Math Magicians Club meets monthly to provide challenging Math exploration for the club members. Students in grades 3-5 are allowed to participate. Club activities range from logic puzzles, Math scavenger hunts, games with permutations, symmetry and much more!
BEA Bunch
BEA Bunch is a club open to students in grades three through five. The students learn about recycling and the environment through presentations, hands-on experiences, and campus beautification projects.
The whole school is involved in recycling. Each classroom, teacher workroom and office area has a recycling container for paper. The BEA Bunch students collect the paper once a month, and the paper is taken to the recycling trashcans located in the school parking lot. These are picked up once a week by the Feed the Bin program. Soft drink cans and bottles are recycled from the teacher’s workroom/lounge area.
Cross Country Cubs
The Cubs meet 2 Wednesdays a month. The children do stretching and warm-up exercises before running. The focus varies between endurance, speed work, distance and pacing. Sometimes the Cubs play games that include a lot of running skills. At the end of each session, the Cubs reflect how far they have gone that day, usually one mile. The club is open to interested second through fifth graders. The goal of the club is to instill the Cubs with a love of physical fitness. The club advisors are both successful runners whose personal philosophies instill the belief that a healthy mind and a healthy body go hand in hand. The Cubs are learning that running and physical fitness is a great way to stay in shape, relieve stress, and socialize with their peers. Look for news of running events as other elementary schools initiate cross country or running clubs.
Handbells & Chorus
Sponsor: Mrs. Ann LeGarde
Farmington Woods Elementary School offers special performing opportunities through the Fifth Grade Chorus and the Fourth and Fifth Grade Handbell Choirs. The performing program reflects the International Baccalaureate philosophy of developing the talents of young people and sharing that success through community service. The Chorus meets on Wednesday mornings before the instructional day begins.
The English handbell program at Farmington Woods remains the only one of its kind in the Wake County Schools and one of the very few public elementary school handbell choirs in the state. While the Fourth Grade Handbell Choir acts as a training choir, the Fifth Grade Handbell Choir serves as the main performing group for the school. Both choirs meet in the mornings before the instructional day begins. The Fourth Grade Handbell Choir rehearses on Thursday and Friday mornings and the Fifth Grade Choir practices on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

…And more!
The Green Thumbs Club will meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 3:30 – 4:15p.m. It is open to grades 2-5. Meetings will be held in Mrs. Long’s Room, after the last bus is called. Children can be picked up out front at 4:15p.m.
Student Council
Farmington Woods’ Student Council is made up of representatives from classrooms in grades 3, 4, and 5. The purpose of the Student Council is to help better our school and community. Student Council officers are elected for the school from nominees from the fourth and fifth grades year and include a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer as well as classroom representatives. They usually meet once a month to prepare and plan events for the school.
Farmington Woods TV News Crew
Farmington Woods' TV News Crew is made of fifth grade students who have auditioned and been chosen to represent the school on a weekly, live, in-house TV news cast. These students meet on Thursday afternoon to write the scripts, set up TV production equipment, rehearse and prepare for the next day (Friday morning) broadcast. Teams of three or four students serve for eleven (11) weeks.
Media Assistants & Dismissal Crew
Media Assistants are fourth and fifth grade students who work in the Media Center either before or after school to assist the MC staff with circulation. These students also perform various duties necessary to open and /or close the Media Center for the day.
Dismissal Crew is composed of fourth and fifth grade students whose primary duty involves posting bus numbers during the dismissal process. They use a PowerPoint program to dismiss not only the buses, but also walkers, carpool, daycare vans, as well as any activities.
